- Light from an East window or a filtered South/West window. Other than succulents, any plants that can withstand direct sun shouldn’t be exposed to direct sun when propagating unless it’s morning direct sun from an East window.
- Average room humidity between 30-40% will do for most plants, especially those propagated in soil. However, if you’re propagating parts in soil humidity should be higher between 50-70% with sufficient air flow. Using a humidifier, or placing a plastic bag or glass dome during the time of rooting is the best way to manage such high humidity levels.
- Water is essential for plant processes like photosynthesis and transpiration. Be sure to refill plants propagated in water when the water gets low to ensure the stems always remain completely submerged. Completely change out and wash out vessel if algae starts to develop. For propagation in soil, re-water plants once the top 1-2 inches of the soil has dried out unless they are succulents/cacti.
- Temperatures ranging between from 65–75° F is ideal for propagating.
Note: Propagation isn’t always 100% successful even if we take all the right measures for it to be. This is why it’s best to maintain good conditions and take multiple cuttings if applicable to improve chances of success! Also, it’s best to do the research on the particular plant that you have to look up the best ways to propagate since not all plants can be propagated using the same method.
