Watering Requirements
Water newly planted trees weekly, providing 1-2 inches of water. Once established, reduce watering frequency but ensure deep watering when you do water, especially during fruit development and dry periods.
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in full sun, needing at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily to produce abundant fruit. Tolerates some light shade, but excessive shading can lead to weak growth, fewer blossoms, and reduced fruit yield.
Humidity Requirements
Limes love humidity just as much as they love the sun, thriving best when levels are around 50–60%, though they are resilient enough to handle levels as low as 40% without much fuss. The easiest way to keep your tree comfortable indoors is with a humidifier, which creates a consistent 'microclimate' of moist air that helps your plant thrive year-round.
Pet-Friendly Plant?
No, this plant is not recommended in homes with pets.
Are Persian Bearss limes seedless?
Yes! One of the biggest reasons home gardeners choose the Bearss lime over other varieties is that the fruit is naturally seedless, incredibly juicy, and features a thin, easy-to-squeeze skin.
Do I need two trees to get fruit?
No, the Bearss lime tree is completely self-fertile. A single tree will happily pollinate its own highly fragrant blossoms, making it a fantastic standalone choice for small backyards, patios, or balconies.
How cold-hardy is a Persian Bearss lime tree?
It is the most cold-tolerant of all the true lime varieties. While lime trees generally hate the cold, a mature Bearss lime can tolerate brief temperature drops down to around 30°F. However, if you live in a climate with hard winter freezes, it's best to grow it in a pot so you can roll it indoors.
When are Bearss limes ready to pick?
They typically ripen from late summer through winter. While we associate limes with a bright green color, Bearss limes actually turn a pale, greenish-yellow when they are fully ripe and at their absolute juiciest. You can pick them when they are green, but letting them yellow slightly yields the most juice!
